      HOW TO PLAY

      FLY

Your ship only does three things: rotate, thrust and fire. Thrust pushes you the way the nose points. Rotating never changes where you are going. Let go and you keep drifting.

There is no brake. To slow down, turn the ship around and thrust against your motion: the engine is all you need, and all you have.

The nose keeps its angle to your flight path. As gravity bends the path, the nose turns with it by the same amount: after launch it points along the path and stays there, and once you turn the ship it keeps the new angle instead of swinging back. Nothing but your own turning changes that angle; the engines never turn the nose. You can switch this off in Settings, and the nose then stays fixed against the stars.

      GRAVITY

The Sun pulls everything toward it, and each planet has its own well (the dashed ring around it). Sideways speed keeps you in orbit; lose it and you fall. Inside the amber dashed ring the Sun pulls harder than your engine can push, so only speed will carry you through. The dotted line shows where you are heading.

To orbit a planet, aim your path so that it passes beside the planet, well inside its dashed ring. As you pass, turn the ship around and thrust against your motion: the dotted path closes into a loop, and turns green once the orbit holds. Stop burning there. A path that points straight at the planet ends on the planet, so steer first; a very fast pass may need a second try.

The asteroid belt lies between Earth and Mars. A rock stops laser bolts, yours and theirs, and flying into one costs hull. Shoot a rock and it breaks into smaller ones that scatter; those can be shot too. Nothing clears the pieces away: each drifts off on its own path round the Sun and turns up somewhere else, and a rock that is destroyed is gone for good.

      FIGHT

Lasers are fast projectiles that gravity bends slightly. Aim ahead of a moving target. Two standard hits destroy your ship, and you have three ships. A ship that is shot down does not vanish at once: it burns and coasts on, out of control, along the path it was on, and blows up a few seconds later. If a planet or the Sun lies on that path, it crashes there. Hostiles that crash into the Sun or a planet while chasing you count as your kills.

      ONLINE MATCHES

MULTIPLAYER puts up to 10 pilots in one arena for 5 minutes, every pilot for themselves. Destroying another pilot scores 500 points. A pilot who is shot down coasts on in flames for a few seconds, then gets a new ship. Every pilot has a colour and a name; you are always the cyan one. The arena is smaller than the solo map and ends just beyond Jupiter. To meet friends, all type the same room code.

On a phone: THRUST and FIRE sit under your left thumb (rest it across both to do both), the two arrows that rotate the ship under your right, with the bomb above them.

      POWER-UPS

A power-up with a dashed amber ring is in a dangerous orbit and scores triple.

        HOSTILES

You also score for staying alive, and earn a bonus ship every 15,000 points.

Rotating never changes where you are going. Thrust pushes the way the nose points, so to slow down, turn around and thrust. As your path bends, the nose keeps its angle to it.
